Welcome to the 2024 Montana Herbal Festival, an annual gathering in Missoula, Montana dedicated to the exchange of herbal knowledge, fostering connections with native plant medicines, and promoting respectful stewardship of our environment.

Saturday Classes will be located at the Gerald W. Marks Exploration Center and Rocky Mountain Garden. Access to all Saturday classes is included with a Saturday Ticket.

Caraway, gota kola, queen anne’s lace, and oshá are all in the carrot/parsley family. A few deadly plants are also in this family. Join us for a visual overview of the important characteristics needed to identify these fascinating herbs and wild plants.

Clinical Pearls from a 40-year Practice with Nan Dunne, ND

There’s book-learning and then there’s humans. So much to know. I will share a few fabulously effective plant medicine formulas that are time-tested, and some case management pearls gleaned fro more than 40 years of herbal practice.

In this class, Justene will discuss four local herbs and ways that we can engage with their energetic qualities for emotional support and as a compliment to other healing modalities.

Herbal Compliance – Bring Back the Art of Kitchen Magic with Natasha Clarke

Using herbs in everyday recipes and foods so that you don’t have another pill to swallow.

Herbal Oxymels For Everyone with Hillary Sargent

Teaching you the benefits of, the many ways to create, and the many ways to incorporate oxymels into your daily life.

Devils Club – An Investigation into Boundaries with Natasha Clarke

– Outside, in the Garden
In this class we will talk about the physical properties of this exciting Pacific Northwest adaptogen, its uses and how it can create boundaries in the eco system and in our own thoughts and actions.

Creating Connections to Place through Native Plants with Susan Teitelman
– Downstairs, in the Balsamroot Room
This class will explore the benefits of and threats to Montana native plants. The class will also cover the ethics and legalities of plant collection in our state.

A Practical Guide to Chinese Herbs with Dr. Zoe Linton DACM, LAc
– Upstairs, in the Honeyberry Demo Kitchen
This class will include a short introduction to Chinese Herbal Medicine, followed by recipes and techniques for using these herbs in daily life. We’ll cover accessible herbs and simple formulas for immunity, stress, digestion and more.

Herbal & Energetic Alchemy for the Heart with Bonita

Late summer can be full of urgency as you try to make the most of the last warm days. Learn how to orient towards your heart center and connect with your autonomy through herbs and energy work.

A Tour of Italian Herbology with Dr. Amy Leonard-Haynes, ND., L.Ac
– Downstairs, in the Balsamroot Room
Come and share the experience of a Tuscan aromatic adventure. Gain insight and wisdom of the ancient and modern masters of the healing arts of Italian essential oils and herbs.

Fearless Fermentation with Jessie Thomas
– Upstairs, in the Honeyberry Demo Kitchen
In this class students will learn how to preserve and alchemize local bounty through the art of fermentation. Students will gain an understanding of how fermentation was discovered, why it can be a helpful tool to use in their kitchens, and how to create ferments safely and with confidence.
